Ron Barron, principal trombonist of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, will perform at two concerts on the Bowdoin campus this coming weekend.
On Friday, November 21, 2008, at 7:30 p.m., Barron will perform a program of American music with pianist Bridget Convey at Studzinski Recital Hall, Kanbar Auditorium. The program includes works written specifically for Barron by Eric Ewazen, Norman Bolter, and Larry Wolfe, plus works by Charles Ives and Herbert Clarke.
The concert is open to the public and admission is free. No tickets or reservations are required.
On Sunday, November 23, 2008, at 2 p.m., Barron will perform as a guest soloist at the annual fall concert by the Bowdoin College Concert Band, under the direction of John P. Morneau. This concert will also be held in Studzinski Recital Hall, Kanbar Auditorium.
The program continues on the theme of this year's concert band season, "FRIENDS." In addition to performing a composition from the standard solo repertoire for trombone and wind band, Barron will perform the Arthur Pryor favorites "Thoughts of Love" and "Annie Laurie."
The program will also include works by Gustav Holst, David Maslanka, Richard Saucedo, and Ronald LoPresti.
The concert is open to the public and admission is free. No tickets or reservations are required.

Ronald Barron has been principal trombonist of the Boston Symphony Orchestra since 1975. He joined the orchestra in 1970 after being a member of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, and also served as principal trombonist of the Boston Pops for 13 seasons.
Barron has been a faculty member for the International Trombone Workshop and the Keystone Brass Institute, and teaches at the New England Conservatory of Music and the Tanglewood Music Center. He received the 2005 ITA Award from the International Trombone Association, "In recognition of his distinguished career and in acknowledgement of his impact on the world of trombone performance."
